The university was established on October 2002 (16.10.2002) by the Govt. of Tamil
Nadu under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 32/2002.
The university began functioning with three departments: Economics, Zoology, and
Chemistry at the Fort Campus, Vellore.
The administrative, academic, computer science, and library blocks were constructed
in Serkadu at a cost of Rs. 20.35 crores.

Year 2010
Thiruvalluvar University moved from Fort Campus to a new campus at Serkadu.
The University’s new four departments Tamil, English, Mathematics, and
Bio-Technology were established.

Year 2014
The University was granted 12(B) status from the University Grant Commission on
24.01.2014.
4.
Year 2015
The University made the Garden of Medical Plants in memory of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
on 15-10-2015.

Year 2018
The University received a “B” grade from NAAC at its 1st cycle of accreditation.

Year 2020
The University received a “B+” grade from NAAC at its Re-Assessment – (Cycle:
1).
The University installed the Complete Network Structure and Architecture
The University implemented online Examination Monitoring System
7.
Year 2021
The University’s new three departments Computer Science, Commerce and Physics were
established.
The construction of hostel buildings for boys and girls was initiated with a grant
of Rs. 25 crores.
8.
Year 2022
The “Online Digital Valuation System (ODVS)” was implemented under TANII grant of
Rs. 785 Lakhs.
9.
Year 2023
The University has introduced Eleven 5-year integrated PG Programmes and three P.G.
Diploma programmes
The Thiruvalluvar University Research Fellowship (TURF) of Rs.8000/- per month has
been initiated from 2023.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr.M.K. Stalin were inaugurated Separate
Hostel buildings for Boys and Girls on 21.01.2023.

The University’s new three departments Sociology, Environmental Science, and
Microbiology were established.
